Introduction
This interactive sunburst highlights the 10 highest-yielding dividend-paying companies currently represented in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Companies are grouped by sector and industry, with each company receiving equal visual weight. Color represents consecutive dividend increase streaks, allowing viewers to compare current dividend yield alongside each company's history of annual dividend growth.
Key insights
Dividend yield and dividend consistency tell different stories
The highest current dividend yield does not necessarily coincide with the longest dividend growth streak. The visualization makes it easy to compare today's yield with each company's history of consecutive annual dividend increases.
Consumer sectors contribute multiple high-yield companies
Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples each contain multiple companies within the displayed group, while other sectors are represented by one or two companies. The hierarchy helps reveal where the selected high-yield constituents are concentrated.
Long dividend growth streaks remain uncommon
The longest streak panel highlights only the top three companies by consecutive dividend increases within the displayed set. Other companies span a wide range of streak lengths, illustrating that current yield and dividend longevity do not always move together.
Equal-sized companies emphasize comparison
Each company occupies the same arc size, meaning the visualization compares individual companies rather than portfolio weights or market capitalization. Differences in color reflect the configured dividend growth streak metric rather than company size.
Methodology
The hierarchy groups companies from Sector → Industry → Company. Each company receives equal angular space to emphasize comparison rather than weighting. Color represents consecutive dividend increase streaks using a sequential scale, while labels display each company's ticker and current dividend yield. The center summary reports the number of displayed companies together with the average dividend yield and median dividend growth streak for the currently visible selection. Viewers can click any branch to zoom into a sector or industry and use the center control to zoom back out. Yield values are based on the individual as-of dates shown in each company's metadata, so multiple reporting dates may appear within the visualization.
